So how do you teach it??
Well, with a four-legged dog, I just pick the paw up and say "gimmie paw, yes!" and treat if they let me pick it up. Once they do that, I'll start asking "gimmie paw" and hold my hand out for them to lift the paw. I might tap the paw to encourage them to lift it. With Probert it was a slower process because he didn't want his paw picked up, so I'd reward at first for letting me touch his paw, then letting me pick it up. Most dogs figure it out, though, and they want their paw in your hand ASAP so that they can be rewarded! :) With Addy it was a little different because I had to use a treat to lure her face up so she'd bring her weight to her back legs. :)
awwwww so cute....mj can give paw....but only when she is in the mood....
