Once they do that, I'll start asking "gimmie paw" and hold my hand out for them to lift the paw. I might tap the paw to encourage them to lift it. With Probert it was a slower process because he didn't want his paw picked up, so I'd reward at first for letting me touch his paw, then letting me pick it up.
